Holiday Changes for Government Offices, Services

The following are details on closings of government offices and changes to services due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Marion Public Health will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 24th and 25th. The closing will affect all divisions of the Marion Public Health including the Administrative, Vital Statistics, Environmental Health, Nursing, Emergency Preparedness, and WIC divisions.

The Marion Public Health currently operates from three locations. The Administrative, Vital Statistics and Environmental Health divisions are located on the 3rd floor of City Hall.  Nursing and Emergency Preparedness divisions are located in the Public Health Wing of Marion General Hospital and WIC is located at 217 W. Center Street. Additional information about Marion Public Health can be found at www.marionpublichealth.org.

Offices in Marion City Hall will be closed on Thursday, November 24th and Friday, November 25th for the Thanksgiving holiday. As a result of City Hall offices being closed on Friday, the weekly early closure day will be observed on Wednesday, November 23rd.  Therefore, City offices will close at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23rd, with the exception of the Municipal Court Office, which will close at 2:30 p.m.

The City Sanitation and Streets Department will not collect trash, recycling, yard waste, or leaves on Thursday, November 24th.  Refuse collection will resume on Friday, November 25th with crews collecting both Thursday and Friday’s refuse.  Residents who normally have Thursday sanitation service are asked to have their refuse at curbside by 7:00 a.m. on Friday.  Leaf collection will also resume on Friday.  Residents may rake leaves to the tree lawn area to be vacuumed; place the leaves in biodegradable paper bags for City pickup; or take biodegradable paper bagged leaves to the free drop off site at 560 Barks Rd. W. (Park Enterprise Construction).  There is no charge for the leaf drop off; however, proof of City residence is required.

Marion Area Transit buses will not operate on Thursday, November 24th or Friday, November 25th. Normal bus service will resume on Monday, November 28th.

The Marion Recreation Center will be closed from Thursday, November 24th through Sunday, November 27th. The center will re-open on Monday, November 28th for normal business.

Marion Senior Center will be closed on Thursday, November 24th and Friday, November 25th. The Senior Center will re-open for regular business on Monday, November 28th.

The Marion County Building and Marion County Courthouse will be closed on Thursday and Friday.

Necessary services including fire, police, and airport will operate as usual.
