Former Prosecutor Running for Marion County Judge
Former Marion County Prosecutor Jim Slagle filed petitions Wednesday morning to run for Judge of the Marion County Common Pleas Court (General Division). The position is currently held by Judge Robert S. Davidson.
Slagle says he is an experienced trial lawyer who has appeared in the courts of 23 counties, four courts of appeal, the Ohio Supreme Court, and the federal courts. He served for 24 years as the Marion County Prosecuting Attorney and was named the Ohio Prosecuting Attorney of the Year in 2008.
Slagle served two years as Chief of Criminal Justice at the Attorney General’s Office where he led a team of 35 attorneys who were responsible for civil and criminal litigation in the state and federal courts. Slagle is currently Manager of the Ohio Campaign for Accountable Redistricting, a nonpartisan coalition which is seeking to reform Ohio’s redistricting process.
“Since last year, countless citizens have been urging me to run for this position,” Slagle stated. “I look forward to using my experience at the local and state level to ensure that the court operates in a manner which will restore the public’s trust.”
The Common Pleas Court General Division has jurisdiction over felony criminal cases and large civil lawsuits.
Slagle received his Jurus Doctorate from The Ohio State University College of Law in 1980 and has been an attorney for 31 years.
Slagle, 56, lives in Marion with his wife Heidi. They have been married for 28 years and have three daughters.
