McClain Announces Candidacy for State Representative

State Representative Jeff McClain (R-Upper Sandusky) has announced his candidacy to serve as representative of the 87th Ohio House District—which will include all of Wyandot, Crawford and Morrow counties as well as portions of Seneca and Marion counties—during the 130th General Assembly.

“I would be honored to serve the 87th District during the upcoming General Assembly and continue my work for our communities,” McClain said.

During the 2011 session of the 129th General Assembly, McClain says he has helped the Ohio House to fill an $8 billion budget deficit without raising taxes on Ohioans, reduce the regulatory burden on small businesses, and strengthen Ohio’s schools by reducing and eliminating unfunded mandates.

He says he has also worked to make Ohio’s government for transparent and accountable, including sponsoring a bill to impose a criminal penalty on public officials who knowingly use public funds for political purposes. He also cosponsored a bill to keep the public and the General Assembly informed about the financial status of the state through the creation of the Long-range Financial Outlook Council.

Prior to serving in the Ohio House, McClain was the Wyandot County auditor for more than 26 years. He currently serves as the chairman of the Finance and Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services. He is also a member of the Finance and Appropriations, Ways and Means, and Transportation, Public Safety and Homeland Security committees.
