Police Raid Marion Convenience Store for Illegal Drugs
The Marion Police Department executed a search warrant on Thursday, January 19, after numerous community complaints reporting the illegal sale of synthetic marijuana, commonly known as “Spice” or “K-2”. Officers say they previously made two separate undercover purchases on the products at Marion Food Mart, 887 East Center Street.
The search warrant was executed at approximately 1:00 pm Thursday by detectives from the MARMET Drug Task Force and the Marion Police Department. Investigators say over 600 packages of the synthetic drug were seized under various names including, “Dead Man Walking”, “Kush”, “Barely Legal”, “Mr. Happy”, “Super Nova” and many others. Also, hundreds of pipes used for smoking the illegal drug and over $6,000 dollars in US currency were seized. The street value of the synthetic drugs was over $9,000 dollars.
Police say that many of the community complaints involved juveniles who were caught by their parents possessing and or using these illegal products.
Formal drug trafficking charges on two people are pending with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office regarding this case.
“This should serve as a warning to other businesses that may be tempted by the allure of easy money. This is a felony drug trafficking crime and will be treated as such,” stated Major Bill Collins.
