Marion Police Make Another Spice/K-2 Raid
The Marion Police Department executed a search warrant Friday, January 27, at another business accused of selling Spice/K-2, or synthetic marijuana. Detectives from the MARMET Drug Task Force and the Marion Police Department executed the search warrant at Shirts & Stuff, 451 North Main Street.
Police officials say this investigation was launched after complaints were received from Marion residents. A controlled purchase of synthetic marijuana under the brand name “Defiant Blue” was made and a search warrant then obtained, according to investigators.
Friday’s search warrant comes after a similar investigation at Marion Food Mart, 887 East Center Street, on Thursday, January 19. Police also made similar seizures at two businesses in October 2011.
Police say that nearly 50 packages of the product were located, as well as numerous items used for the preparation and consumption of illegal drugs was seized. These items were sold under the brand names “Defiant Blue”, “Defiant Summit” and King Kush. A small amount of currency was also seized.
Major Bill Collins said the business owners were cooperative during the execution of the warrant, but said they thought what they were selling was legal because “the distributors told us it was.”
Formal drug trafficking charges on one person is pending with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office regarding this case.
“We will continue to investigate and charge those that choose to ignore the law,” Major Bill Collins stated.
