Chamber Cuts Ribbon at Studio Montage
Marca Industries officially opened its new art studio – Studio Montage - on January 26 with a ribbon cutting at their location in downtown Marion, 144 West Center Street. The studio features work areas for artists, as well as a retail operation for the consignment sale of artwork.
The retail area will include artwork created by individuals receiving services from the Marion County Board of Developmental Disabilities and other county agencies around the state.
“We had a great turnout for the ribbon cutting and I hope this gets us off to a great start,” said Liz Owens, manager of industrial services for Marca Industries. “This will be an opportunity for our individuals to show off their incredible talent and for the public to purchase quality art at reasonable prices.”
The studio is open Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Individuals attend art classes daily at the studio with an on-site coordinator.
“We see this as a win-win for our individuals and the community,” Owens said. “Our individuals can earn income from their art, and it helps in the revitalization of downtown Marion.”
More than 800 Marion County individuals, ranging from infants to senior citizens, receive support from Marion County DD. The agency sponsors the Marca sheltered workshop, the Marie English Early Childhood Center, Special Olympics, various adult services, community employment and residential programs.
