Water main break delays 2016 spring hydrant flushing

An overnight water main break along Delaware Avenue in Marion is forcing crews to delay system flushing schedule one day this week and into next.  Once isolated, the break only affected one customer Thursday, but the repair required resources to be refocused from flushing maintenance.

“Flushing will resume tomorrow with crews working in the area originally scheduled for today,” said Don Scott, Operations Supervisor for the Marion Division. “We would have liked to minimize confusion by keeping our Friday schedule but, it is important that we flush areas in order to ensure we are scouring the system properly to prevent sediment buildup.”

Scott said that no interruptions in water service will occur as a result of the flushing but customers may notice a drop in water pressure or temporary water discoloration. If possible, customers should refrain from doing laundry to avoid possible staining while the flushing is taking place near their home. If tap water is discolored, allow it to run until clear.  Running several cold-water faucets at the same time will help the water clear faster.
