Patrol investigating crash at intersection where signals not working due to power outage

Troopers from the Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a serious injury crash that occurred on Monday, June 27, 2016 at 2:48 pm on State Route 309 at State Route 98 in Marion County.

The crash involved a brown 2014 Chevrolet Sonic driven by Shawna Moore, age 24, of Marion, and a silver 2014 Volkswagen Beetle driven by Ralph Chambers, age 73, of Bucyrus. The Patrol reported that Moore was westbound on State Route 309 while Chambers was northbound on State Route 98. At the time, the traffic signal at State Route 309 and State Route 98 was not working due to a power outage. Investigators said that both vehicles proceeded into the intersection, and Chambers was struck by Moore. Chambers was forced off the west side of State Route 98 and Moore came to final rest in the intersection.

Moore was transported to Marion General Hospital by First Consolidated Fire EMS and then taken by MedFlight to Grant Medical Center in Columbus.

Chambers was transported to Marion General Hospital by Marion Township Fire EMS and then taken by 1st Advanced Ambulance to Grant Medical Center. Mr. Chambers’ passenger, Mattie Chambers, age 78, was taken to Marion General Hospital by Pleasant Township Fire EMS and then taken by MedFlight to Grant Medical Center.

Assisting at the scene were Marion Township Fire EMS, Pleasant Township Fire EMS, 1st Consolidated Fire EMS, and Buckeye Collision.

No charges have been filed at this time and the crash remains under investigation.
