Edith M. Schmelzer, 93, of Richwood

Edith M. SchmelzerEdith M. Schmelzer, 93 of Richwood died Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at her home.  She was born September 2, 1920 in Nantwich, Cheshire, England to the late William and Elizabeth Hill.

On November 24, 1944 she married Ralph E. Schmelzer and he died June 21, 1996.

She resided in Richwood for 68 years and was proud of becoming a U. S. Citizen on December 14, 1956.  Edith enjoyed all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.  She enjoyed reading, spending time in her garden, having family get-togethers and following all her family in their sports activities.  She loved to knit and sit on her porch watching the birds, deer and squirrels play in the yard.

She is survived by her children, Mike (Shirley) Schmelzer, Indian Lake; Margaret (Steve) Asher, Marion; Ralph Schmelzer; Roberta (Mike) Drumm, Sue (Ralph) Huffman, Tom (Kathy) Schmelzer, JoAnn (Mike) Tosco, all of Richwood; grandchildren, Joe (Amy) Schmelzer;  Dan (Carolyn) Asher; April (Karl) Whitt, all of Marion; Dawn (Joe) Howald, LaRue; Mike Drumm; Eric Schmelzer; Mike (Kelly) Tosco; Kim (Joe) Brill all of Richwood; John (Jennifer) Drumm, Delaware; Jennifer (Jonathan) Butts, Hilliard; Jamie Schmelzer, Mt. Victory; Marcus (Jess) Schmelzer, Milford Center; Mike Huffman, Urbana; great-grandchildren, Austin (Cadence) Schmelzer; Elizabeth Workman; Erica Workman; Zach Howald; Patricia Huffman; Taylor Brill; Tarryn Brill; Jeremiah Brill; Destiny Proffitt; Caelan Schmelzer; Alexander Butts; Troy Workman; Shaina Huffman, Ryan Huffman, Alexia Huffman; Charles Whitt; Stephanie (Shawn) Swartz, Seth Asher; Logan Asher; great-great-grandchildren, Sabastion Schmelzer and Lydia Schmelzer; eight step-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Gordan (Anne) Hill, England.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers; and an infant daughter.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 21, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Rev. Dave Dipietro officiating.  Burial will follow in Claibourne Cemetery.  Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 at the funeral home.
