Quietly and peacefully, in the early hours of August 25th, 2015, Margaret Marie (Maguire) Whelan passed onto a more comfortable place.
Margaret “Peg” was born on March 6, 1925, to William J. and Bertha (Greene) Maguire in Philadelphia, PA.
With the strength and will of an Irish saint, Peg raised seven children. While raising her children she enjoyed gardening, golf, the outdoors, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. For over 33+ years, she also worked at the Marion City Prosecutor’s Office. Retirement allowed her to spend more time enjoying her grandchildren’s activities.
Missing her, but cherishing immeasurable memories are her children: Michele (Thomas) Norton, Joseph (Henri) Whelan, James Whelan, Patricia (William) Dennison, John (Ann) Whelan, Nancy Whelan, and Lisa (John) McDaniel. Her beautiful grandchildren: Michael, Stacy, Conor, Shawn, Cameron, Joseph, Abbe, Trevor, Erin, Erika, Elizabeth, Daniel, Maggie, Jeremiah and Devlin, as well as 15 great-grandchildren.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, brother, and daughter-in-law, Anne Whelan.
A memorial mass celebrated by Father Thomas Buffer will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2015, at St. Mary Church, 251 N. Main St., Marion. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Friends and family are then welcome to join a gathering in her memory at Marion Country Club, 2415 Crissinger Rd., Marion, starting at 4:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to any Parkinson Foundation of your choosing, and they may be sent to the care of the funeral home.
