Discipleship - Fundamental Gift

I apologize that it has been awhile since my last article. Hopefully I have not kept you waiting too long. We have been very busy with the new church, camps, getting ready for Mike Skupin from Survivor coming, and another year of Hell's Motives (for more details on these, visit www.theshepherdsfellowship.org or www.theshepherdsnook.com). The funny thing is, business is the very thing that I will be writing against in this installment.

No, I have not been neglecting my personal spiritual growth but none the less, business is an enemy of us all. It's one of the most popular and effective tools the enemy uses against us to keep us from a life more abundant. One of the most effected areas in our lives is discipleship. Discipleship is just a fancy word for growing to be lore like Christ in love, faith, power, understanding, and as a servant as well. When we visit one of my favorite sections in the Bible (Acts 2: 42-47) we find the early church jamming by being devoted to the apostle's teaching, doing life together, breaking bread together, and taking care of one another. In other words, becoming more like Jesus.

We have this same opportunity and commission today in our own lives. When we are devoted to the teachings (getting passionate about the Word of God, the Bible), we learn more and mature in our understanding. It is a great gift to have to be able to have the Word of God before us. Not only that, but to have the gift of prayer, where you and I get to speak one on one with the creator of all. The fact that the Lord and lords and King of kings wishes more than all else to be my friend and father. That He listens to my every thought, struggle, and praise. As I listen to His words through the scriptures and talk to Him through my prayers, I start to establish more of a radical, personal relation with God in the same way I do to a close friend of many years.

The best part is we don't have to do it alone. We can also get involved in a small group where we can laugh and learn together. Tapping into the fundamental gift of Fellowship allows us to have others who care about us and keep us on track. To grow within a community gives us more purpose and resources to draw from.

Find a church that ministers to you. Join a group where you are challenged and cared about to grow with. There is a life of purpose and of passion that is waiting for you. Don't let business rob you of the very life that is planned for you.
