Part 2 - What Is a Person?

The debate of the ages still permeates the nations of the world. When does a cell blossom into a human being? When can we call this tiny being a person? He is a life in spite of the fact that some folks don’t want to believe it. After all, abortion cannot be considered killing if the victim is not yet alive. Man-made laws can be changed to suit the whims of men, in order to sound logical, men have decided to separate science from theology. That way, children can be taught Darwin’s evolutionary theory, for that is science, and therefore the truth. This way they can dismiss children’s theological upbringing without excuse.. Many, many years ago, in college, this teaching caused much confusion within me. I had always believed that God had created me. Could I any longer believe my parents – or the God I had always believed in? Science is truth. Many scientists would have us believe that they, as the sole representatives of science, are the only ones who represent truth. They have relegated any belief in God to theology. If they are right, there are as many truths as there are scientists. Since many scientists believe that Jesus is the truth, which ones are correct? Can there be, then, any truth at all? Is theology, or a belief in a Creator, a lie? Jesus claimed to be the Way, the Truth and the Life.” Was I worshipping a liar? Could this be taught in a classroom without any mention that God is not a man, that He should lie? I intend to prove, scientifically, that life, whether it comprises one cell or millions of cells, is indeed, life, right from the instant of conception. I intend, also, to show that human cells are human lives, and, therefore, persons. Finally, I intend to prove that human life is complete from the moment he/she is conceived. From the beginning you have a human person who is not a part of anyone but himself. Those who promote the pro-choice agenda refuse to accept any conclusions other than their own, no matter what is the truth. Science, itself, dictates that everything that grows is life. This is considered a postulate, a fact that cannot be refuted. It borders on the very definition of life and can be used to prove any scientific fact. We know that, from the beginning, one cell grows by dividing itself over and over, growing in size and development every moment. This, then, must be a human being, or life. Now we must prove that this life is human. Any doctor can tell you that the initial cell is made up of 46 human chromosomes from the egg of the mother and from the sperm of the father. This is not an acorn; it is, by definition, a human being – a person. Now we must decide whether this person is complete, or whether something must be added before he/she can be considered a person. Nothing is added except oxygen and nutrition, but that is what must be added to him as long as long as he lives. Actually, the tiny group of cells that have been scoffed at by some will simply grow into the bigger group of cells that comprise the adult who has been doing the scoffing. What is more amazing, these cells, though diverse in their functions, share the same DNA and one of them, taken from one part of his body, can morph into another bodily function whenever needed. This process , known as adult stem cell research, has made it possible for people to even cure themselves. What is even more amazing to me is that the experts claim this all happens by chance. When things are left to chance, they only deteriorate. They never evolve into something better. Can any intelligent person dare to shun intelligent design? Man can only reproduce; only God can create. Without the acknowledgement of God, life has become cheap in the eyes of many people. When we banished God from society we banished His rules, as well. We have been going downhill ever since. Unless someone is wanted, useful or otherwise beneficial, he can be obliterated at any time. Jesus said, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). In the 23rd Psalm we see, “It is He that hath made us, and not we, ourselves.” In Deuteronomy we find: “I have set before you life and death, blessings and cursings. Therefore choose life, that thou and thy seed might live.” Jesus said ; I am the resurrection and the Life (John 11:25). If I believe in God, I must throw out the science of the experts. I will listen to those scientists who believe in God, and there are many.
