Facebook Leads to Local Arrest

The Marion County Sheriff's Office says a posting on their Facebook page has led to the arrest of a man wanted for two active warrants.

On March 1, at approximately 10:00 pm, a caller contacted the sheriff’s office and advised that they had been at the Sundance Bar in Marion and had recognized a wanted subject.

The caller, who wishes to remain anonymous, stated that they had recently seen on the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page pictures of several subjects with active warrants. The caller recognized 44-year old Larry Kitts.

Kitts, of 237 W. Fairground Street, was subsequently arrested on two active warrants for failure to appear for driving under suspension and also for a bond violation for possession of cocaine.

“In today’s society it is important to stay up-to-date and informed. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office uses its agency website and Facebook page to quickly and accurately get information out to inform and alert the public,” Sheriff Tim Bailey said. “We commend the caller for being well informed and observant. I hope more people use the resources and tools that the sheriff’s office and other public agencies have to offer the public.”

To date the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page has over 1260 “friends” and almost daily receives crime tips and questions from the public.
