Elgin West Elementary School fifth grader Amy Hafer, fifth grader Jeffrey Lobb and sixth grader Madison Forbis were recently inducted into the AAA School Safety Patrol Hall of Fame. Each year, AAA Ohio Auto Club selects just 10 of its more than 6,000 school safety patrollers for this honor. AAA says these students exemplify the spirit and purpose of the AAA School Safety Patrol program.
This year, a third of the Hall of Fame inductees came from Elgin West Elementary School, which is a testament to the school’s ongoing dedication to safety. AAA School Safety Patrol advisor Linda Demmitt nominated the three students with glowing letters of recommendation.
“Amy [Hafer] is the epitome of what an advisor hopes for in a safety patrol member,” said Demmitt. “She is always on time to her post and has volunteered to cover a shift for an absent member.”
“Jeffrey [Lobb] displays a strong safety protocol when crossing students by being very observant for oncoming traffic and the traffic light cycle,” said Demmitt. “Jeffrey is always polite and courteous to students and adults. He arrives early and will stay late to cover his post.”
“[Madison Forbis] was chosen to be the Captain of the safety patrol team this year,” said Demmitt. “Madison displays a strong sense of maturity and leadership.”
Each year, millions of young people like Hafer, Lobb and Forbis volunteer their time to help ensure their peers make it to and from school safely. The AAA School Safety Patrol Hall of Fame is a way to acknowledge top patrol members who exemplify the spirit and purpose of the AAA School Safety Patrol. To date, 126 students have been inducted into the Hall of Fame.
This year, all AAA School Safety Patrol Hall of Fame inductees were honored during a special luncheon at Huntington Park in Columbus. The students then had the chance to walk around the bases before that evening’s Columbus Clippers game. They also received free tickets to the game.
