The Arts Palace, a visual and performing arts program of the Marion Palace Theatre, offers area youth the opportunity to become involved in the arts as part of the theatre's Summer Day Camps. Registration deadline for the following camps are one week before the first class meets.
A summertime tradition for many young thespians is participating in "Set The Stage" Theatre Camp at the Marion Palace Theatre. Young actors are immersed in the production process learning lines and cues, preparing song and dance numbers and performing on the Palace stage. This camp will teach students acting skills, give them performance experience, build a sense of accomplishment, and most of all allow time to have fun. This camp runs Monday through Thursday. On Friday afternoon all campers will come together for rehearsals at 3:00 pm and a final performance for friends and family at 5:30 pm.
Please note each camp is separated by age groups. Children ages 6-8 years will meet from 10 am to noon and present "The Three Little Pigs: Both Sides of the Story" while students ages 9-14 years will meet 1 pm to 4 pm and perform "The Drum."
Students may choose between camp dates July 25-July 29 and August 1-August 5.
Johnny Steiner, professional singer, performer and voice instructor will direct these theatre camps. Morning camp fee is $65 and the afternoon camp fee is $75 and includes healthy snacks.
Additional camps are offered this summer including Goopy, Gooey Global Art (ages 6-8 years), Adventures in Art (ages 9-12 years), Just For Fun (ages 6-8 years) and Weird and Wacky Week (ages 9-12 years).
Thanks to funding from the Junior Service Guild, scholarships are available to students based on need and artistic interest. For more information or to register for the camps mentioned above, please call the Palace Theatre Box Office, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm at 740-383-2101.
