Glenn Coble has announced he has entered the race for Marion Township Trustee after recently filing the required paperwork with the Marion County Board of Elections. Coble said he wanted to bring active leadership to the trustees pushing for cooperative government, improved public safety, and community pride.
“We need to find ways for all parties, branches, organizations to work together for the common good of our constituents,” said Coble. “We are all tired of the petty bickering, name calling, and kingdom building.”
Coble said he believes that pride needs to be built in the community in various ways, including working to reduce crime and drugs, providing better opportunities for young people to use their free time and find work, encouraging township beautification, community gardens, bike and walking paths, creating and enforcing housing codes, and partnering with schools, universities and corporations. He said these things would make for a more family friendly atmosphere and would aid organizations whose mission includes a focus on the betterment of Marion.
“I plan to be active in pursuit of new and old ideas that can help Marion county, city and township work together to reduce crime, provide better services, and make our local government more cost effective and efficient,” said Coble.
Coble said he believes there are ways that have not been pursued that can help local fire departments and law enforcement.
“These ideas need to be looked at and the chaff needs to be separated from the grain with an honest look at what is best for all of Marion,” stated Coble.
To offer more details on his campaign and goals, as well as to connect more directly with the community, Coble has opened a new Facebook page at www.facebook.com/Coble2013.
Coble, the son of a Methodist minister, was raised with his brother and sister in South Bend and Valparaiso, Indiana where he earned a B.A. degree from Valparaiso University. Coble met his wife of 43 years, Caryl, in Valparaiso and they have three children, Kristopher, Amy and Andrew, who are all married and have seven children.
Coble started his career in radio as an announcer and business manager. While continuing in radio as a sportscaster, he moved into retail sales management, but was lured away by an offer to become Sports Information Director at DePaul University which blossomed into the position of Assistant Athletic Director. He was then hired away by Ohio University as Assistant Athletic Director where he continued for 12 years.
Coble became a small business owner when he opened a sporting goods store in Lancaster, Ohio where he managed the store while also working as Sports Editor at the Messenger newspaper in Athens. He closed the store after 5 years and eventually moved to Marion to become Business Development Specialist at Marion Community Credit Union, a position he currently holds.
Coble says that his business development and marketing efforts with Marion Community Credit Union has helped him become a well-known member of the community. He is a graduate of the Marion Leadership class of 2006 and has twice brought the United States Army Field Band to perform in Marion. Coble says he works hardest on supporting the young people in Marion including events such as Finance 101 classes, KidFest, Fool-Proof online financial classes, and Credit Union Youth Week.
