The Republican-led Ohio House has voted to create Gov. John Kasich's new private economic development board, despite some lawmakers' concerns about its transparency and oversight.
A story from the AP says, the legislation passed on a 59-37 vote Tuesday and now goes to the GOP-led Senate.
The measure outlines a framework for the nonprofit JobsOhio, a nine-member board that includes Kasich as its chair. It's intended to eventually replace the Ohio Department of Development. Kasich says the agency is too slow and bureaucratic to keep up with businesses.
The bill calls for JobsOhio to do much of its work in private. Democratic lawmakers say the panel would lack accountability.
