Marion Doctor Receives Jana Banks Award

Christina Tulenko, MD, an active member of the medical staff and medical director for the emergency department at Marion General Hospital, was recently presented with a Jana Banks Award for Clinical Excellence by Premier Health Care Services. This award is designed to highlight health care providers who have been recognized as providing excellent clinical care in a specific emergency department encounter.

Dr. Tulenko was nominated for the Jana Banks Award by Dr. Amy Reed, who is also a member of Marion General’s emergency services medical staff. Dr. Reed wrote about an infant who was brought into the emergency department for “Failure to Thrive,” a description applied to children with development significantly below what is expected.

According to Dr. Reed, “Dr. Tulenko’s thorough evaluation and observation, as well as her clinical excellence, have changed this child’s life forever, as the implications of her findings may make a huge difference in the prognosis and care of this child.”

Dr. Tulenko was chosen by the Premier Clinical Operations Team from nominations submitted throughout 2011, and presented with the award at a company meeting in December.
