Mindy Weiler, age 46, of Mount Gilead

Mindy Weiler, age 46, of Mount Gilead, died early Monday morning, July 12, 2010, at the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus following an extended illness that she fought for over fifteen years.

On June 1, 1964, Mindy was born in Delaware, Ohio, the daughter of Robert Jr. and Marilyn (Brown) Weiler.

She graduated from Highland High School in the Class of 1982. Furthering her education at the Ohio State University, she received her bachelor’s of science degree in human ecology in 1986.

A home economics teacher, Mindy first worked at the Jamestown Middle School until she was transferred to her home school.  While at Highland High School, she taught for over ten years and she diligently instilled as many useful lessons as she could to her students.  Her family as been told by many of her former students, they “were very grateful to have her as a teacher.”

Known for being “particular” about how things should be done in the kitchen, Mindy truly had a way of preparing the best food!  Her family insists that she “made the best beef stroganoff you will ever eat”, and she was an excellent baker with one of their favorites being her monkey bread.

Before becoming a teacher, Mindy worked for Silver Threads Decorating Company where she was a designer and sewer of all things.  She had a knack as a seamstress and could make most anything she put her mind to, and had made things such as costumes and bridesmaid dresses.  She also enjoyed cross-stitching in her down time.

Having been active in the 4-H and the junior fair board as a child, Mindy continued her dedication to the Morrow County Fair by serving as the treasurer of the Morrow County Senior Fair Board for nearly ten years.  She had also attended the Harmony Chapel United Methodist Church.

For over the past fifteen years, Mindy has “courageously fought for her life”.  She used her strong will and independence to “always look on the bright side”, even when times were tough.

Mindy will be dearly missed by her parents, Bob and Marilyn Weiler of Mount Gilead; brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Mary Weiler of Mount Gilead; a nephew, Matt Eagon; and her maternal grandmother, Geneva Brown of Mount Gilead.

Mindy was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Lester Brown; paternal grandparents: Bob and Elsie Weiler; and three uncles: Warren Brown, and Steve and Tom Weiler.

The Weiler family will greet friends from 4 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 15, 2010, at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 S. Main St., Mount Gilead. Memorial services celebrating her life will be held there on Friday at 10:00 a.m. with Pastors Jeannie Winters and Jeff Deel officiating. Inurnment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Chesterville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to 4-H of Morrow County, to assist with scholarships for future campers. They may be sent in care of the funeral home.
