Cathryn W. Wilson, age 86 of Sunbury passed away Monday evening, July 12, 2010 at Friendship Village of Columbus.
She was born on September 2, 1923 in Amesville, Ohio to the late T.J. and Nellie (Byers) White.
After graduating from Ohio University, she worked as a home economics school teacher.
On July 28, 1946 she married her husband of 63 years, Henry D. Wilson Jr. For 60 years they operated a farm near Sunbury, working side by side and sharing in all activities. He died on August 11,2009.
Cathryn was a longtime member of Sunbury United Methodist Church and Sunbury Searchlight Club.
In 1966 she served as Worthy Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter of Ohio for the Eastern Star. She was a 65 year member and past Matron of Columbia Chapter No 33 O.E.S. and served as the committee chairperson of ESTARL. Cathryn was a woman dedicated to the principals of the Eastern Star, always doing what was right for the Order. A woman of elegance and presence, she was beautiful on the floor of Grand Chapter. Her eloquent personality always allowed her to be in command of every situation.
A longtime 4-H judge, she was a wonderful cook, known for her home baked pies and vegetables from her garden. Known for her wonderful dinners, she was quite the entertainer and her home was always open to family or visitors.
She will be remembered for her guidance, always being by her husband's side and warm, genuine smile.
Cathryn is survived by her brother, J. Weber (Martha) White of Hamilton; nieces Louanna (Roy) Locke of Bartow, Florida, Gernelda Meyers of Cincinnati, and Linda Lovelace of Hamilton; nephew Richard (Jeannine) White of Hamilton; her late nephew’s wife Alene King of The Plains; special caregiver Brigitta Lambert of Sunbury, and a host of other dear friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brother Jasper White, sisters Louise King and Julia Starlin, and a nephew, Robert King.
Friends may call Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, S.R. 3 at 61, Sunbury, OH 43074, with Eastern Star service at 8:00. Services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Sunbury United Methodist Church, 100 W. Cherry St, Sunbury, with Rev. Brian Smith officiating, interment Sunbury Memorial Park.
