Charles E. "Chuck" Yager Sr., age 82, of Marion, died Friday afternoon, July 16, 2010, at his son's residence following an extended illness.
On July 21, 1927, Chuck was born in Marion, Ohio, the son of the late Edward and Susie (Linn) Yager.
A World War II veteran, Chuck served in the United States Army as a tank driver.
On March 6, 1966, Chuck married Bernice Filyaw in Falkaton, Georgia. They shared over 39 years of marriage, with her preceding him in death in 2004.
Chuck was a retired iron worker of Iron Worker’s Local, Union #172. He was a member of the Marion Masonic Lodge #70, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, and the Marion Shrine Club. He was also a life member of the American Legion Post #584 and Amvets Post #39.
An enthusiast of everything outdoors, Chuck especially loved to go hunting and fishing. He would hunt pretty much anything that moved, even enjoying trips to southern Ohio to hunt wild boar and a special trip to Maine to hunt black bear. He also owned a place on Indian Lake, his favorite place to fish.
Chuck may have been a stubborn, hard headed man at times, but he was not worried about what others thought. His main concern was that of his family, those who mattered most to him. His greatest joy was spending time in the outdoors with his grandchildren.
Chuck will be dearly missed by his three children: Charles E. (Teava) Yager III of LaRue, Charles E. “Corky” Yager Jr. of Maryland, Carol (Cecil) Tomsey of Florida; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grand children; and two brothers: Lester (Margaret) Yager and Jerry (Sandy) Yager, both of Marion.
In addition to his wife and parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his brother, Harry Yager, and his daughter-in-law, Donna Yager.
Chuck's family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 22, 2010, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion, where Masonic services will follow immediately at 7:00 p.m. Services celebrating his life will be held there on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Corey Savage officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Marion County United Veterans Council will follow in Waldo Cemetery.
