Robert Eugene Arnett, 77, of Marengo

Robert Eugene Arnett, age 77 of Marengo passed away Saturday,  July 17, 2010 at his home.

He was born in Raven, Virginia on November 21, 1932 to the late Garrett Arnett and Edith (Hughes) Childress.

Robert was a decorated Korean War veteran, who proudly served his nation as a Sergeant in the US Army in the 27th Regiment, 25th Infantry 506th Battalion of the 101st Airborne Division. He was an longtime member of VFW Post #8054, serving in the color guard for many years.  He retired from the Kroger Bakery in Columbus, Ohio after 25 years.

A member of Chester Masonic Lodge No 238, his hobbies included fishing, horse racing, gardening, camping, and debating politics.  He was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds, Bengals, and classic movies. As one who read the encyclopedia, he possessed a vast knowledge of numerous subjects.

He was a good cook who believed in doing things the right way. Forthright, intelligent, and always honest, he was a good generous person, who will be remembered for his love of family.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 49 years Ann (Damron), daughters Angie Arnett of New York, Amy (Aaron) Arnett-Tomasek of Wooster, son Gary (Barbara) Dryden of Alabama, 6 Grandchildren: Keoana, Bella, Izzy, Tycho, Chris, Belinda, and 4 Great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by brothers: Garrett Jr. and Barney Arnett, and a sister Maxine Tuttle.

Friends may call Tuesday 6-8 p.m. with Masonic Services 8:00 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR’s 3 at 61, Sunbury, where a service celebrating the life of Robert Arnett will be held Wednesday 11:00 a.m.. Burial with full military honors will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery near Chesterville.
