James D. “Dennie” Thompson, Jr., 72, died at 8:35 p.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Heartland of Marion.
He was born On November 16, 1939, in Bucyrus, Ohio to the late James D., Sr. and Helen E. (Goerlach) Thompson.
He graduated from Marion Harding High School in the class of 1957.
He was married to Judith Elaine Calbert on October 15, 1960, at Emanuel Lutheran Church by the late Rev. M.E. Hollensen.
Dennie was retired from Parker Hannifin, formerly B.F. Goodrich, in Green Camp, Ohio.
He was an avid Bowler and was named Marion County Bowler of the Year in 1974. He was twice inducted into the Marion County Bowling Association Hall of Fame, a privilege bestowed on very few individuals. In 1988, he was honored for superior performance, and in 2003, for meritorious service. He was also a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Judie; a daughter, Rae Andrews, Marion, and a son Jarrod (Jodi) Thompson of Prospect. He has three grandchildren, Amanda (Travis) Jolley, Meredith Elaine Andrews, and Jarrod D. Thompson, one great granddaughter, Savannah Jolley. Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Donna Calbert.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, James E. Calbert, and his daughter, Robin Elaine Thompson.
There will be no calling hours observed, a graveside service will be held Friday, September 21, 2012 @ 1 PM at Marion Cemetery with Pastor Mark Schuring officiating. The Boyd-Born Funeral Home is handling the arrangements for the family.
