Richard D. Smith age 76 of Marion, Ohio passed away Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Marion General Hospital.
He was born December 16, 1935 in Marion, Ohio to the late Delbert and Artie (Kincaid) Smith.
On July 31,1975 he married Mary M. (Blevins) Smith, she preceded him in death on October 13, 2012.
Richard was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict and was employed at Probst Supply as a truck driver for fifty years.
He is survived by his daughter, Joyce (Gordon) Bowen of Kendallville, IN., two sons, James Rice of Marion, OH., Robert Rice of Florida, two brothers Russell Smith of Marion, OH., Kenneth Smith of Marion, OH., a sister, Imogene (Warren) Postell of Marion, OH., one special granddaughter, Bobbie Jo Rice, eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sons, Billy and Paul Rice, three brothers, Gerald, Perry and Paul Smith, three sisters, Juanita Smith, Helen Weaver and Leona Walter.
Funeral services for Richard will be held Tueday, October 23, 2012 @ 1 PM at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home with Pastor Josh Haus officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Heights Memory Gardens with the Marion County United Veterans Council conducting a Military Service. Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, October 22, 2012 from 6 – 8 PM at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home.
