Jeanne E. Davis, age 85, a lifelong resident of Marion, who was formerly of Harding Highway West (SR 309) near Big Island, died peacefully Friday morning, September 28, 2012, at her residence following a brief illness.
On July 29, 1927, Jeanne was born in Marion County, the only daughter of the late Lawrence B. and Trella E. (Roberts) Davis. She graduated from Marion Harding High School.
For 37 years, Jeanne worked as a repair parts person for the Marion Power Shovel until her retirement, where she also was a member of their 25 year club.
A woman of faith, Jeanne was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church, where she attended until she was no longer able to due her health. For the past many years, she listened to the Emanuel Lutheran Church service on the radio.
Dedicated to her parents, Jeanne’s mother fell ill at 38 years old, so she returned home to be with her mother in her final days. She would then remain home to care for her father for the rest of his life, caring for his every need.
An avid Johnny Mathis fan and member of his fan club, one of Jeanne’s proudest achievements was attending one of his shows in Cleveland as she thought “he was the best thing ever”.
A very prideful woman, Jeanne “loved to go shopping” in search of outfits to make her look her best. She even enjoyed wearing her high heels until she was 75 years old.
An amazingly sharp woman, Jeanne’s mind was “impeccable” as she could remember most any date or number. She also was an ornery and cantankerous lady who enjoyed her beer and a smoke.
She will be dearly missed by her longtime friends: Lavon (Keith) Verity, and their children: Lauren, Ryan and Logan, and many other dear friends.
