On September 26, a few of the River Valley FFA officers attended the first Ohio Legislative Leadership Conference. The following officers attended this conference: Logen Willey, Kylee Bristol, Taylor Seckel, and Kayla Edington.

The conference began with Beth Vanderkooi giving a presentation on “Making Your Voice Count”. Then Adam Sharp hosted a Grassroots Game, where students role-played as representatives of a district and tried to win re-election in their district by maintaining votes. Both of the previous speakers are part of the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation.

After a short break to view the State building, the students sat down with Ohio legislators to speak with them about the FFA and its positive effects on the young society. During lunch, Senator Bob Peterson and Governor John R. Kasich spoke of their support of the FFA.

The following FFA State officers also spoke at the conference: Sarah Bookman, Craig Berning, Daniel Zimmerman, Shelby Faulkner, and Erin Wollett.

The conference was ended with Erin Wollett stating the famous lines of the FFA President’s closing ceremony, “ As we mingle with others, let us be diligent in labor, just in our dealings, courteous to everyone and, above all, honest and fair in the game of life.”
