Candlelight Vigil to Honor Children Who Have Died

On Sunday, December 9, 2012, the Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting will unite family and friends around the globe in lighting candles for one hour to honor and remember children who have died at any age from any cause. As candles are lit at 7:00pm local time, creating a virtual wave of light, hundreds of thousands of people will commemorate and honor children in a way that transcends all ethnic, cultural and religious boundaries.

Residents of the Marion area will hold their candle lighting at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 197 East Center Street in Marion. The local event will run from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.

Local organizer Mary Brady asks those attending to bring a picture and/or memorabilia of the child you wish to commemorate. These items will not be kept.

Brady says that knowing some will find the evening difficult, there will be people available to read the child’s name if that person is unable.

In addition, Brady says that poems, specific readings, or special songs will be welcomed as time allows.
