A crash in Boone County, Kentucky on Wednesday resulted in the death of two Ohio women. One of those women was Lynne Whatley, the Executive Director of the Union County Red Cross.
According to authorities, Whatley, 53, of Irwin, was driving her Chevrolet Impala northbound on I-71 in Verona, Kentucky. Investigators say Whatley apparently lost control of her vehicle and slid through the median into the southbound lanes where her vehicle collided with a semi. The impact then knocked the Impala back into the median and a second semi then slammed into the first semi.
The highway was closed over six hours due to the crash, which occurred at just after 3:00 pm.
Whatley was killed in the crash along with her passenger, 53-year-old Debra Kleiber, of Plain City.
Investigators say a strong storm was moving through the area at the time of the crash and they believe that may have contributed to the loss of control.
