Alice L. Smith, age 87, made her journey to join Christ on Tuesday afternoon, December 11, 2012.
She was born on July 7, 1925 to the late (Alfred) Harvey Wilson and Dolly (Cora) Andrews Wilson. Alice married Robert E. “Bob” Smith on May 29, 1949 in Kentucky.
Alice attended Harding High School and worked alongside of her father and brothers at the family grocery store on North Main Street in Marion. She was a meat cutter and cashier. Alice and her husband Bob then purchased a property across the street which was known as Smith’s Cardinal Foods for 63 years.
Alice was a member of the Berean Baptist Church for more than 30 years. A very community minded person, she was involved as a volunteer at MGH, member of Alpha Y Gradale Sorority and past Queen of the Central Ohio Retail Grocer’s Association. Along with Bob, her civic work included Lions Club and Gyro Club.
Alice is survived by her husband Bob of 63 years. Also she leaves two daughters: Phyllis (Victor) Mahaffey and Linda (Tim) Beck both of Marion. Also surviving are her beloved grandchildren: Nancy (Bill) Preston, Jason (Tammy) Mahaffey of N.C., Jennifer (Chris) Rogers and Pamela Caudill; Cherished great grandchildren: Aubrey and Dolan Greer, Konner and Branyan Caudill, Jade Slone, Clay and Casey Rogers, Megan Preston, Halle Mahaffey and Taylor Wagoner; Two adored brothers: William (Barbara) Wilson and Albert (Gloria) Wilson. Also surviving are many treasured nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her one sister Maxine (Wilson) Davis and one brother Lemoyne B. Wilson.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 14, 2012, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 East Center Street, Marion from 4PM to 7PM; Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 10AM with Pastor Charles Reed. Burial will be in the Chapel Heights Memory Gardens.
