Jean Woodard Reed, age 90, formerly of Marion, died Friday morning, December 28, 2012, at Wesley Ridge in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.
On November 25, 1922, Jean was born in Belle Valley, Ohio, one of two daughters of the late Ellis D. and Anna (Jones) Woodard. She graduated from Belle Valley High School, and later received her bachelor’s degree in Education from the Ohio State University in the Class of 1945.
Shortly before graduating college, Jean married George P. Reed, on September 18, 1943. Together they shared over 42 years of marriage, and lovingly raised one son, Steve. George preceded her in death on October 3, 1985.
For 35 years, Jean worked as an elementary school teacher for the Waldo and River Valley Schools, until her retirement in 1983.
A woman of faith, Jean had been an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marion, where she served as an elder, until she was no longer able to attend due to her health.
She will be dearly missed by her son, Steve (Eva Sue) Reed of Reynoldsburg; two grandchildren: Jason (Melissa) Reed and Valerie (Todd) Ballinger; four great-grandchildren: Jack and Meri Xing Reed, and Cadence and Max Ballinger.
Including her husband and parents, Jean was preceded in death by her sister, Elaine Thorla.
The Reed family will greet friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 31, 2012, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion, OH, 43302. Services honoring her life will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Jeffrey E. Greenway officiating. Entombment will follow in Marion Cemetery.
