Steven R. Brinkman, 59, of Edison

Steven R. Brinkman, age 59, a lifelong resident of Edison, died Monday evening, January 14, 2013, at the Woodside Village Care Center following a brief illness.

On November 13, 1953, Steve was born in Morrow County Hospital, the youngest of four children of the late Emmett Jr. and Lois Mae (Williams) Brinkman.  He graduated from Mount Gilead High School in the Class of 1972.

Furthering his education, Steven attended the Ohio State University, where he earned double majors of Geology and Anthropology.

Upon his graduation, Steve returned home to Edison, and worked as a health inspector for many years for the Marion and Crawford County Health Departments.  For the past three years, he worked as a driver for the Morrow County Transportation Commission (MCTC).

Having an appreciation for history, Steve had an extensive collection of arrowheads and geodes.  He often polished and cut the geodes he found, to learn as much as he could about the geode and where it might have come from.  He was a member of the Ohio Archaeological Society.  He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, using groundhogs as target practice, and was a member of the NRA.

An avid reader, Steven was always reading books regarding the history of most any subject you could imagine.  He also enjoyed gardening, tending to his many flowers at his home.

A man of many quirks, Steve was proud to have an opinion about most everything and wasn’t afraid to share those opinions.

He will be missed by his two brothers and one sister: Randy (Marilyn) Brinkman of Foster, Kentucky, Martin (Rebecca) Brinkman of Galion, and Cynthia Stearns of Edison; 13 nieces and nephews: Daniel (Paula) Brinkman, Debbie (John) Devenney, DeeDee (Drew) Griffin, Sean (Jill) Brinkman, Amy (Jerry) Brinkman, Matthew (Kortney) Brinkman, Amanda Brinkman, Christopher (Angie) Brinkman, Andrew and Alexandra Brinkman, Jennifer (Josh) Salyer, Rebecca (Ron) Large, and Kimberly Stearns; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

The Brinkman family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Friday, January 18, 2013, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead.  Services honoring his life will also be held there on Saturday at 11:00 a.m., with Celebrant Don Lockwood officiating.  Burial will follow in Worden Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Edison United Methodist Church, 335 S. Boundary St., Edison, OH 43320, and Hospice of Morrow County, 228 South St., Mount Gilead, OH 43338.
