Job and Family Services Issues Warning Over Smartphone Apps

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) is warning Ohioans about potentially fraudulent smartphone applications that claim to offer the ability to check their cash and food assistance account balances. The apps, which often cost between $1.50 and $1.99, are not approved by ODJFS or their partners. ODJFS never charges individuals for access to account information.

The apps also require users to provide confidential financial information, and the potential for identity theft is a real concern. ODJFS does not recommend purchasing or downloading this type of app.

Ohioans can check their ODJFS account information securely, for no cost, at ODJFSbenefits.ohio.gov or by visiting the official EPPICard and EBT card websites at www.eppicard.com/ohedctaclient/ and www.ebt.acs-inc.com/ebtcard/ohebt/index.jsp.
