John Douglas Fabian, 75, passed away January 24, 2013, at the Sun Towers Retirement Community in Sun City, Florida. His wife, Sandy (McDonald), whom he married May 18, 2002, was by his side.
He was born June 25, 1937, in Marion, Ohio, to Lawrence J. & Etta L. (Herring) Fabian, both deceased.
John was first married to the late Donna M. Pollock on May 21, 1955, and five children were born of that union: Daniel R. Fabian, Arcadia, Florida; Deborah S. Fabian, Marion; Doreen J. (Russ) Hilt, Marion; David W. (Brenda) Fabian, Forest; and Dennis A. Fabian, Marion. Seven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and eight nieces and nephews also survive him.
John graduated from Morral High School in 1955, and then followed his family’s tradition of working for the Marion Power Shovel, starting as a machinist’s helper. He worked his way up the ladder, traveling the world, and when he retired after 40 years of service, he was the General Manager of Marion Power Shovel Services, Pty., Ltd., in Australia, having lived there several years.
Besides his parents, sisters Anita M. (Paul) Monnette and Martha J. (Anthony) Caserta preceded him in death. Another sister, Margurite, died at birth, as did one grandson.
John chose cremation as his final disposition and there will be no funeral service. There will be a memorial service in Florida later.
