Palace Theatre to Host Live Performances of “The Rosa Parks Story”

The Rosa Parks Story, performed by ArtReach Cincinnati, shares an empowering message about freedom, equality and justice for all Americans.  The show will take place at the historic Marion Palace Theatre on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm. Reservations are required.

When Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a public bus in Montgomery Alabama to a white man more than 55 years ago, on December 1, 1955, she was tired and weary from a long day of work. Little did she know that this simple act of courage and defiance would significantly change the course of the nation. Her subsequent arrest led to the Montgomery bus boycott and helped jump start the Civil Rights Movement.

Rosa Parks was not the first African-American to challenge the segregation laws of a public transportation system. But her solid character, her quiet strength, and her moral resilience caused her act to successfully ignite action in others.  Her action on December 1, 1955, was spontaneous. She knew she had taken a huge risk.

As she later said, “When I made that decision, I knew that I had the strength of my ancestors with me.”

The Rosa Parks Story shows how the determination of one individual made all the difference in the struggle for freedom and equality in the United States. This 45-minute performance is recommended for ages 9 and up.

Reservations are required for The Rosa Parks Story.  Tickets for are $3.50 and may be purchased at the Palace box office, 276 W. Center St. in downtown Marion or by phone at 740/383-2101.  Box office hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, closed Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
