Services for Eugene Dacer Spears will be held Friday, 1:00 p.m. at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home in Marion by the Rev. David Carlyle. Burial will follow in the Marion Cemetery (new addition).
Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday before the service from 11:00 to 1:00.
He died Monday, February 11 at his residence in Kenton, OH.
He was born on June 19, 1930 in Thealka, KY to the late Ray and Mabel (Baldwin) Spears. On June 29, 1957 he married Doris M. Calbert in Marion, OH and she preceded him in death on August 16, 2011.
Surviving are two daughters Leslee K. Spears of Kenton; Paula J. Spears-Jones (Michael) of Kenton; one grandson Stuart D. (Alexandria Prater) Jones of Findlay, one granddaughter Arden L. Jones of Columbus; one great-granddaughter Johanna D. Jones of Findlay; brother Dr. Joe Spears of Paintsville, KY, sister-in-laws Carrie Byrd of Loudonville, OH and Linda (Ron) Harper of Mt. Gilead, brother-in-laws William Calbert of Rock Hill, SC and Jack Griffiths of Marblehead, OH; numerous nieces and nephews; and his personal home health aide/family friend Nina Meeks.
He was preceded in death by sister-in-laws Jane Spears, Rose Weber, Linda Calbert and Patricia Griffiths; and 3 nephews.
He was a 1949 graduate of Prestonsburg High School (KY) and retired from Marion Power Shovel in 1995 after 25 years of service. Eugene was an Army veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict.

Gene followed the trials and tribulations of the Cleveland Browns for many years as one of their most die-hard fans. He also cheered for the Buckeyes, NASCAR and the Cincinnati Reds. He enjoyed playing cards, his cats and watching television. He will missed by his family and friends.
