Floyd O. Richmond, age 75, of Morral, went to be with his wife and Lord early Friday morning, February 15, 2013, at his home with his loving son by his side.
On March 12, 1937, Floyd was born in Elm Grove, Illinois, the son of the late Arthur and Pearl Iona (Gray) Richmond.
Leaving school early to join the military, Floyd was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a mechanic.
While being stationed in Fort Bliss, Texas, in the Air Force, Floyd met and fell in love with a young lady, Carmen Reyes, in Juarez, Mexico. Soon thereafter, they were married there on September 16, 1956. They cherished their 49 year of marriage together, and lovingly raised a son, Raymond. She preceded him in death on November 30, 2005.
Upon his honorable discharge, Floyd and Carmen moved to West Virginia, then later to Marion, Ohio, in 1968, and eventually to Morral, Ohio, in 1976. He worked at Tecumseh Products in Marion, for 17 years, and later at the Budd Company in Carey, for 17 years, until he retired.
A man of faith, Floyd was an active member of the First Church of God in Marion, where he served on the board of trustees.
With a love for board games, Floyd enjoyed playing any game you were willing to play. He was very competitive too, always playing to win. In his younger days, he also enjoyed bowling.
Having the kindest heart, Floyd could best be described as a saint. He truly was one of the sweetest people you could have ever known.
He will be dearly missed by his son, Raymond Richmond of Morral; two granddaughters: Angel (Robert) Rocca of Belleville, Michigan, and Heather Richmond of Toledo; a brother, Russell (Luce) Richmond of Elm Grove, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
Including his wife and parents, Floyd was preceded in death by his brothers, John and Raymond Richmond; and a sister, Ethel Blinco.
Floyd’s family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services honoring his life will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m., at the First Church of God, 921 Woodrow Ave., Marion, with Rev. Ohmer Swart and Pastor Nardain James officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Marion County United Veterans Council will follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery.
