Dr. Raymundo Lazo Concepcion – Wowo to his grandchildren and those who loved him – passed away, peacefully, at home on February 13, 2013.
With his family, Ray emigrated from the Philippines in 1954, completed his residency and internship on the east coast and moved to Marion to join the Frederick C. Smith Clinic as one of the original partners. His specialty was Urology and Surgery.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Aida. He is survived by sons, Roberto (Jackie) and Raoul; daughter Rebecca (Scott Backus); grandchildren, Samuel Concepcion Kullens, Ann Concepcion Morris (Tony), Robert Concepcion, Nicholas Concepcion and Isabel Concepcion; great- grandchildren, Caden Morris and Corlei Morris.
While at home for the past three years, Ray was cared for by an amazing group of women taking 24 hour shifts, 7 days a week: Heather, Shannon, Rachael, Katlyn and Lynne. Close friend, Liz Litzenberg, played a very active role during this time, as well. He regarded them as a big part of his family. The Concepcions are especially grateful for their dedication and love. He was “like a grandfather” to them.
Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church at 10:00am on Monday, February 25, 2013. A luncheon will follow at Rosa & Rocco’s restaurant on McMahon Boulevard.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Aida S. Concepcion Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Marion Community Foundation.
