Donna M. Wargowsky ThomasDonna M. Wargowsky Thomas, age 79, of Marion, passed away on Saturday evening, February 23, 2013 at the Marion General Hospital.

Donna was born on October 17, 1933 in Marion, Ohio, to William and Effie (Powell) Darnell. She was lovingly raised by her adopted parents Charles and Hattie Haberman. Donna graduated from Harding High School in the class of 1952.

Donna was united in marriage to Allan R. Wargowsky on December 5, 1954, in Marion, Ohio. He preceded her in death on January 13, 1977. On November 12, 1988 Donna was united in marriage to Howell G. Thomas in Marion, Ohio.

Donna enjoyed many careers over her lifetime. She worked as an assistant at a doctor’s office, she worked along side her husband Allan as a farmer and most recently was involved with insurance sales with Thrivent Lutheran and Modern Woodmen Insurance companies.

Donna’s passion in life was giving back. When she saw a need, she met it. She graciously gave of her time volunteering. She supported Pleasant School Athletic and Band Booster programs, Farm Bureau, Marion County 4H, Church Preschool Board and the Palace Theatre. She was also extremely involved with the Lutheran Church on the local, state and national levels.

When it came to the holidays, Donna’s spirit of giving increased even more. She reached out every year to those who might not have a place to go over the holiday seasons and invited them over to her home to be part of her family.

Faith was a very important part of life to Donna. She was a member of the Lutheran church and she enjoyed being able to worship many places including the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Marion, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waldo, the First Presbyterian Church in Marion and others.

Donna is survived by her husband Howell G. Thomas; her children: David A. (Melinda “Mindy”) Wargowsky and John R. Wargowsky; Step-children: Gordon (Ann) Thomas and Cheryl (Gale) Kinsell; grandchildren: Eric Thomas, Amanda Kinsell and Matthew Kinsell; Great grandchildren: Hayden and Jayden Thomas; Step-mother Catherine (Isabelle) Darnell; Half-brothers: Michael, Tom and Robert Darnell and sister-in-law Lois Darnell.

She is preceded in death by her parents, adopted parents, her first husband Allan R. Wargowsky, her infant daughter Mary Ann Wargowsky and siblings: Betty (Lee) Boyles and Floyd Darnell.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 East Center Street, Marion from 4PM to 7PM; Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1:30PM at the funeral home with Pastor Robb Morgan Officiating. Burial will be in the Waldo Cemetery.
