John Brooks Soulier, 93, of Mount Gilead

John Brooks Soulier, age 93, of Mount Gilead, died Monday evening, August 30, 2010 at the Woodside Village Care Center.

On October 25, 1916, John was born in Marion, Ohio, the son of the late William Frederick and Mabel (Brooks) Soulier.  He was a graduate of Marion Harding High School in the Class of 1934.

John married Loraine Virginia Drake on January 8, 1939.  They shared over 66 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on April 8, 2004.

A WWII Veteran, John proudly served his country in the United States Army.

A man of many trades, John worked as a machinist for Marion Power Shovel and also at another factory in Upper Sandusky.  For many years, he and his brother ran Soulier Plumbing and Heating.  He finished his career working for H.P.M. in Mount Gilead.

John was a former member of the Salem Evangelical Church in Marion and was currently a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Mount Gilead.  He was also a member of the Mount Gilead Masonic Lodge #206 F. & A.M.  John also spent several years serving on the Mount Gilead town council.

In his spare time, John loved bowling in leagues, golfing, and wood working.  He always enjoyed maintaining a garden, even though its size continued to shrink each year.  His garden always had wonderful tomatoes and beautiful roses and impatients.  John also loved to play Trivial Pursuit.  You were doomed if you had to play against him, so you would always hope you were on his team.

John will be remembered for his great sense of humor and for being an absolutely wonderful father and family man.

John will be dearly missed by his children: Sandra Joan (Richard) Harris of Lake St. Louis, Missouri, John Robert Soulier of Kansas City, Missouri; four grandchildren: Cynthia (Brian) Bishop of Medina, Ohio, Jeff (Deidre) Harris of Kapalai, Hawaii, Tristan and Jordan Soulier, both of Washington Courthouse, Ohio; and five great grandchildren: Tom, Nathan and Michael Bishop, and Alex and Nicole Harris.

In addition to his wife and parents, John was preceded in death by three brothers: William, Marion, and Carl Soulier; and seven sisters: Rosie Bending, Mabel Geyer, Donna Yingst, Iona Brown, Patricia Hughes, Barb Sheldon, and Joan Soulier.

John's family will greet friends on Thursday, September 2, 2010 from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead, with Masonic Services being held at 7 p.m. Services celebrating his life will be held there on Friday at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Charles Graham officiating. Burial with full military honors conducted by the V.F.W. Post #8054 and AmVets Post #87 will take place at Rivercliff Cemetery.
