James B. Jagger, age 92, of Mount Gilead, passed away on Friday morning, March 8, 2013, at his home following an extended illness.
He was born on September 20, 1920, the son of the late Charles R. and Maude (George) Jagger, on the family farm located in Morrow County on County Road 20.
In 1938 James graduated high school in Chesterville and soon after joined the United States Army to serve in World War II in the Philippines.
After coming home from his tour he began working various jobs. For a few years he co-owned and operated the Blue Ribbon Grill in Mount Gilead with his sister and brother-in-law; Frances and Chuck. He also sold and installed storm windows on the side for many years just to keep busy and earn a little extra. For almost 30 years James worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation as a bridge and road inspector.
On May 1, 1948, James married Margaret Irene Smith in Mansfield, OH. Together they shared almost 65 years, raising two boys along the way.
He will always be remembered for the love he had for his family. Just about every morning he would get up early just so he could stop by and visit his sister before work. If someone in the family was sick or in the hospital, he always made it a point to stop and visit. He and his family took many annual vacations traveling across the United States. His sons remember going on many special fishing trips to Canada with him.
James will be dearly missed by his wife, Margaret I. Jagger, of Mount Gilead; two sons: Nick (Sue) Jagger of Lima, OH, Todd (Carol) Jagger of Bellville; five grandchildren: Ryan, Jenna, Richard, and Jackie Jagger, and Tracie (Adam) Bakewell; one great grandchild: Alyssa Jagger; and one Sister-in-law, Margaret Jagger of Mount Gilead.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Julia (Gerald) Taylor, and Frances (Chuck) Bourquin; and one brother John Jagger.
The Jagger family will greet friends from 11 to 1 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2013, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services celebrating his life will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Celebrant Don Lockwood officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Chesterville.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Morrow County and may be made in care of the funeral home.
