Marguerite Florence Corrigan, 96, of Marion

Marguerite Florence CorriganMarguerite Florence Corrigan, 96, passed away April 2, 2013, at the Osceola Health Care Center in St. Cloud, Florida.

A Marion resident her entire life, she was born September, 29, 1916, to Harry B. and Lettie E. (Collum) Coon. In 1940, she married Walter J. Corrigan, and together they shared 65 years until his death in 2005.  They enjoyed many happy family times at their cottage at Indian Lake, as well as traveling to Florida, Myrtle Beach, and to their children and grandchildren’s activities.

A 1934 graduate of Harding High School, Mrs. Corrigan was a secretary at Marion Power Shovel until her marriage.

Still living in the home she and Walt built together, she was the ultimate homemaker; her cooking and decorating made every holiday and celebration special. Her popcorn balls and cookies were legend. Active in the community, she served as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, on PTA and school music committees, in Artisan Guild, Lionness Club, and on committees at Epworth UMC where she was a member since 1965. She was the only remaining charter member of the Alpha Y Gradale Sorority which she and friends founded in 1936 as a service group. The girls raised money and gave many hours in the community supporting local charities and individuals. She also received awards for the thousands of hours she volunteered for the Twig III Gift shop at Marion General Hospital where she was a buyer for flowers and music boxes.

Marguerite’s children and grand children were her joy. She is survived by children Walter (Jean) Corrigan of St. Cloud, and Karin Ballinger of Marion. Her grandchildren include James (Kate) Corrigan and Jon (Michele) Corrigan of Florida, and Sara Ballinger of Marion. Great grandchildren are Taylor and Ava Corrigan.  She was preceded in death by a brother Thomas B. Coon.

Special thanks go to Cornerstone Hospice of Florida for their kindness and support.
