Ralph Leo Miley, 87, of Marion

Ralph Leo MileyRalph Leo Miley passed away on April 5, 2013. He was born June 27, 1925 in Marion to the late Elmer H. Miley and Mae M. (Voight) Miley.

Ralph was a Veteran of World War II having served in the USN Seabees for nearly three years. He received his high school diploma thru Harding High School in 2002 when they honored the World War II Veterans drafted out of their senior year of school.

Ralph worked for Huber Mfg. Co. for 38 years, also for Gruman Bus Co. of Delaware, Oh. He retired from Central Machinery in 1990.

In his younger days he was an excellent fast pitch softball player for Huber Corporation for 19 years. He was called “The Huber Slugger” and had many home runs. Ralph loved watching most sports. He is a member of American Legion Post 605 of Waldo.

He is survived by his wife Dee Delores Sands Miley, and his children, Yvonne and Ron Emerson of Waldo, Oh., Mark Sands Jr and Becky Horne of Waldo, Tony and Alice Sands of Edison, Oh., John Sands of Caledonia, Oh., Michelle Bowers of Marion, Diane Sands of Mansfield,Oh., 23 step- grandchildren, 22 step-great-grandchildren, and daughter in law Susan Sands of Zanesville, Oh.

Preceding Ralph in death are one son, Mike Sands, and one daughter Darla Sands.

In 1947 he married Delores E. (Dains) Miley, she preceded him in death in 1985. Together they raised three sons, Ralph Jr. and Cheryl Miley, and son Ryan of Tampa, Fla., Bruce and Linda Miley and daughters Michelle and Vanessa of Marion, and Kim Miley and children, Lauren and Kyle of Marion.

He is survived by a brother Glen Miley of Marion, and sister June Augustine, of Marion. He was preceded in death by three sisters Geneva Chatfield, Edith Alexander, Ilene Thompson, and daughter in law Jennifer Miley.

The family will receive friends Monday April 8, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors with Rev. Frank Issacs Officiating. Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery with the Marion County United veterans Council Conducting Military Honors.
