Marion General Hospital is pleased to recognize Dr. John W. McDonough, III, surgeon, who was chosen by Marion General associates as the hospital’s 2013 Physician of the Year. A graduate of Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit, Michigan, Dr. McDonough completed his internship and residency at Providence Hospital and Medical Center, Southfield, Michigan. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery.
Marion General associates were invited to nominate a physician, with nominees then voted on by staff members. Announcement of the winner is made during the week leading up to National Doctors’ Day, celebrated each year on March 30.
Criteria for this annual award includes modeling the hospital’s cardinal value by honoring the dignity and worth of each person; serving as an ambassador for Marion General Hospital; and devoting time and energy to improving the quality of life for others in the community.
In nominating Dr. McDonough, the writer stated, “Dr. McDonough is the ‘poster child’ for honoring the dignity and worth of each patient. Many of his patients have special issues that could make them difficult to treat, but he treats every one of them with dignity. He never refuses to see anyone and is kind to all.”
Dr. McDonough joined the medical staff of Marion General Hospital and OhioHealth Marion Area Physicians (formerly Smith Clinic) in August 2002. He serves as a member of the Marion General Hospital Cancer Committee.
Additional nominees for the award include Bradley D. Campbell, MD, FACOG; Seong I. Kim, MD; and Tarlok S. Purewal, MD, FACP.
