Mary Ann (Shirk) Keefer, 85, of Marion

Mary Ann (Shirk) KeeferMary Ann (Shirk) Keefer, age 85 of Marion passed away Monday, April 8, 2013 at Marion Pointe.

She was born October 20, 1927 in Union County to the late John J. and Jessie E. (Laughorn) Shirk, Sr.

Mary was valedictorian of her class at Broadway High School.  She graduated from Marion Business College where she was a member and secretary of the Alpha Iota Sorority.

She married Louis W. Keefer on November 11, 1950 in Marion, OH.

Mary was a home-typist for the Fulfillment Corporation and worked for Commonwealth Insurance and Osgood as well as others.

She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and later Prospect Street United Methodist Church for over 50 years.  She was also a member of the Martha Horne Circle for over 38 years.  Mary was active in PTA and enjoyed reading to students at Olney Avenue Elementary School as well as a Girl Scout leader.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Rebecca (Roger) Porter and Barbara K. Hersman, grandchildren, Christine Justice, Matthew Porter, and Benjamin (Amy) Porter all of Texas, and Sarah (Richard) McDonald of Marion, OH, great-grandchildren, Calah Justice, Luke and Jackson Porter all of Texas, and Emma, Richie, William, Norah, Leah, and Samuel McDonald of Marion, and also one brother, Larry L. (Phyllis) Shirk.  Besides her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Keefer (06/29/99), her sisters, Betty Rider, Bernice Williams, Wilma Emmons, and her brothers, John, Jr. and Robert Shirk.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home from 5-8 PM.  The funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at 12 noon also at the funeral home with Pastor Nancy Goulet presiding.  Interment will immediately follow at the Marion Cemetery.
