John D. Halbert Sr., age 81, of Marion, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Kingston Residence in Marion.
Born May 2, 1931 in Marion to the late Paul L. and Gertrude (Waterhouse) Halbert, he was a US Army Veteran in the Korean War.
John retired as a purchasing agent for HPM after 39 years. He was a member of Timothy Lutheran Church, former member of VFW Post 7201, Moose Lodge, and American Legion in Cardington. John enjoyed golfing and wood working.
He is survived by his wife Shirley A. (Weeks) Halbert who he married February 28, 1953, one son Daniel Halbert of Marion, two daughters, Michele R. (Randy) Fetter of Marion, Laura “Lisa” (Tom) Linton of New Bern, North Carolina, one brother Larry P. Halbert of Marion, one sister Gwendolyn Mathias of Youngstown, Ohio, five grandchildren, Brandon (Briana) Seidel, Amber (Rob) Deem, Danielle (Mike) Jones, Josh (Amber) Fetter, Megan Fetter, seven great-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, and his canine friend “Jack the dog”. John is preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Irene Heller.
Family will greet friends at a Celebration of Life Visitation at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors, Saturday, May 18, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
