Marion Goodwill Industries, WSOS Community Action and Marion City/County Regional Planning Commission, in association with the Neighborhood Stabilization Program, have announced the completion of the Marion Goodwill State Street apartments. The new-construction project located at 601 North State Street consists of three townhouse rental units.
Two of the units are architecturally barrier-free for people who have disabilities. The two-bedroom apartments are constructed with conveniences including lowered sinks, countertops and mirrors, accessible appliances, and easy roll-in showers. The third unit is family friendly with three bedrooms and 1.5 baths on two floors.
The State Street apartments will complement Marion Goodwill’s Affordable Housing and Accessible Housing Programs. In 2012, housing services were provided to 32 individuals and families. Program services provide support for those that need assistance in order to maintain housing security. Basic needs including budgeting, utility assistance referrals, Ohio Benefit Bank services, and employment search assistance are provided so residents can concentrate on overcoming their housing uncertainty.
Marion Goodwill says that by providing supports to individuals and families who are living independently and by stopping them from becoming homeless, the programs not only add to the individual or families well-being but will also save dollars in the long run for the city and taxpayers alike.
Marion Goodwill’s Housing Programs are funded in part by United Way of Marion County, Goodwill Wheel-A-Thon Supporters and Marion Goodwill Retail Store customers and donors.
