Monty Bill Koesterman, 62, of Marengo

Monty Bill KoestermanMonty Bill Koesterman, age 62, of Marengo, died Thursday evening, May 2, 2013, at Marion Pointe following a long battle with mental health illness.

On June 3, 1950, Monty was born in Nealy Ridge, Virginia, the son of the late Ewald W. and Donna (Counts) Koesterman Wigton.  He graduated from Highland High School in the Class of 1969.

Monty married Mary Torrey on June 3, 1978 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Cardington.

For many years, Monty worked for Carriage Arms Apartments in Marion.  He was also a lifelong mechanic, specializing in transmission work.

Monty’s toys, his cars, were very important to him.  His collection started with a 1967 Chevy Impala SS, a 1956 Chevy, and a 1941 Willys Monster Jeep.  He enjoyed nature and being outdoors, and shooting firearms.

Those who knew Monty knew him as an eccentric man.  He was very smart, maybe even too smart for his own good at times.  Monty loved the earth.  He always wanted to make things better, but just didn’t always know how.

Monty is survived by his wife, Mary; a daughter, Angela Koesterman; and a grandson, William Jackson, all of Marengo.

Monty’s family will greet friends from 12 – 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead.  Services honoring his life will be held there at 2:00 p.m. with Chaplain Dave Matos officiating.  Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery in Marengo.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Delaware Morrow Mental Health and Recovery Services Board, 40 N. Sandusky St., Suite 301, Delaware, OH 43015.
