One Killed in Head On Crash Thursday Afternoon

Ohio State Highway PatrolThe Ohio State Highway Patrol says one man was killed and another man was critically injured in a crash Thursday afternoon on State Route 4 north of Marion. The crash took place at 3:32pm north of US 23.

The Patrol says the crash involved a 1999 Buick LeSabre driven by Donald D. Young, 78, of Bellevue. The second vehicle involved was a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Michael E. Light, 50, of Bucyrus.

Investigators say preliminary investigation indicates that Young was traveling southbound on State Route 4 while Light was traveling northbound. Young drove left of center and struck Light’s vehicle head on, according to the Patrol.

Light sustained serious injuries and was transported to Marion General Hospital. Young sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Marion County Deputy Coroner Craig Thompson.

The crash remains under investigation. The Patrol was assisted by the Salt Rock Township Fire Department and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
