Sandra Sue “Sandy” Davis, of Cardington and formerly of Prospect, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday evening, June 6, 2013, at home surrounded by her loving family and friends, following a valiant six year battle with cancer. She was 63 years old.
On August 17, 1949, Sandy was born in Ironton, Ohio, one of five children of the late Lester E. Reaper Sr. and Alberta (Pancake) Keaton. She was raised in Coal Grove, Ohio, where she graduated from Coal Grove High School in the Class of 1969.
During her senior year of high school, a young veteran returned home after serving in the U. S. Army, David L. Davis, to find Sandy all grown up after he had been away. He proposed soon after returning, and they were married on June 20, 1969, at the Ice Creek Baptist Church in Deering, Ohio, just weeks after her graduation. They have cherished their nearly44 years together.
Shortly following their marriage, Dave and Sandy moved to Prospect, where they lived for 35 years, and where she worked at both the Union Store and Ulman’s Department Store. For the past eight years, they have lived in Cardington.
A woman of deep faith, Sandy was a faithful and active member of the Grace Baptist Church in Marion, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher for their teens for 17 years and for their youth for many more. She also enjoyed singing in the choir for many years.
Very giving, Sandy volunteered her time and efforts for many causes over the years, such as the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and for the Heart and Lung Association. She also volunteered with the Marion County Election Board, helping with their polls.
Having a heart of gold, Sandy lived a life of devotion to her husband, children and church. An appropriate word to describe her would be angelic, as she was unconditionally loving, protective and forgiving.
She will be dearly missed by her beloved husband, David L. Davis of Cardington; adored daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Kenneth Winroth of Delaware; a brother, Lester (Cindy) Reaper Jr. of Columbus; a sister, Roberta “Bobi” Rideout of Ironton; and several nieces and nephews.
Including her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by her son, David Shawn Davis on January 11, 1995; brother, Richard “Ricky” Reaper Jr.; and sister, Janet Reaper Waller.
The Davis family will greet friends from 2 – 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, 2013, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services celebrating her life and giving glory to God will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m., at the Grace Baptist Church, 1560 Marion-Marysville Rd. (SR 4), Marion, OH, with Pastor Nick Warden officiating. Her family will again greet friends for an hour prior to her services. Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Baptist Church (address above), and Marion General Hospital Hospice, 278 Barks Rd. W., Marion, OH 43302.
