Lucas Gene Kearns, 34, of Marengo

Lucas Gene KearnsLucas Gene Kearns, best known simply as Luke, went to be with the Lord, Monday morning, July 1, 2013.  He was 34 years old and from Marengo.

On May 25, 1979, Luke was born in Marion General Hospital, the only child of Lloyd and Donna (Hay) Kearns.

A lifelong resident of Marengo, Luke was a proud graduate of Highland High School in the Class of 1997.

Further his education, Luke studied engineering at Marion Technical College, earning a degree with many engineering specialties.

For many years, Luke worked in the engineering department at Cardington Yutaka Technologies.  Currently, he had been working as a maintenance engineer at the Todco Company in Marion for the past year.

Just over three weeks ago, Luke enjoyed one of the best days of his life, marrying his best friend, Jessica Prichard, on June 8, 2013, at the Denmark United Methodist Church.  Sharing a special bond, he had known for most of the five years they dated that he wanted to marry her, and his biggest concern was making sure that “Jessica was happy”.

Inheriting a love for the outdoors from his father, Luke loved to go hunting and fishing whenever he could.  Every summer, he would look forward to walleye fishing up at the Lake Erie.

A thoughtful and kind young man, Luke would do anything he could for you and was happy to do it.  Always happy, he had a unique and playful smile that could brighten anyone’s worst day.

A Christian man, Luke firmly believed in the Lord.  He also was a member of the V.F.W. Post 8054 in Mount Gilead, and Eagles #503 in Sunbury.

He will be forever missed by his wife, Jessica Kearns of Marengo; parents: Donna & Lloyd Kearns of Marengo; parents-in-law: Wally & Brenda Prichard of Edison; a grandmother, Mary Kearns of Marengo; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.

His family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Friday, July 5, at the Snyder Funeral Home, 76 S. Main St., Mount Gilead.  Services honoring his life will be held at his graveside in Marengo Cemetery, 1636 Co. Rd. 26, Marengo, on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Laura White officiating.
